Title: Unlimited Subscriptions & Self-Assessment Filing
Summary:
This article explains CalCal’s Unlimited and Unlimited+ subscriptions and how Self-Assessment filing works within them.
What is the Unlimited subscription?
The Unlimited subscription provides ongoing access to CalCal’s accounting tools – recording earnings and expenses in the Calculating Calendar, sending invoices and statements, tracking asset purchases and stock value. It includes Self-Assessment tax return submission as part of the plan, much of it pre-filled with your totals and figures from the year.
It is designed for users who:
- Want year-round access to their records
- Are self-employed or limited company
- May also need VAT or ongoing reports
Subscription options
Unlimited
- £5 per month or £50 per year
- Includes:
- Accounting and record-keeping features
- Reports and summaries
- Self-Assessment return submission
⚠️ When paying monthly, Self-Assessment filing becomes available after 3 months.
Unlimited+
- £8 per month or £80 per year
- Includes everything in Unlimited, plus:
- VAT returns (MTD)
- VAT-related features and reports
Self-Assessment with an Unlimited plan
With an Unlimited or Unlimited+ subscription, you can:
- Prepare and submit Self-Assessment returns each tax year
- Use supported forms such as:
- SA100, SA101, SA102
- SA103 (self-employment)
- SA105 (property)
- SA106 (foreign income)
- SA109 (non-resident)
- Reuse stored data across tax years
- Keep ongoing records for future submissions
Monthly vs annual subscriptions
- Annual plans allow immediate access to Self-Assessment filing
- Monthly plans require a short qualifying period before filing is enabled
If you need to submit a return urgently, the pay-per-return option or an annual subscription may be more suitable.
Choosing the right option
| Your situation | Recommended option |
|---|---|
| One tax year only | Pay-Per-Return (£35) |
| Self-employed | Unlimited (annual) |
| VAT + Self-Assessment | Unlimited+ |
| Catching up past years | Pay-Per-Return (per year) |
Important notes
- Subscriptions provide software access only
- CalCal does not provide personalised tax advice
- HMRC guidance remains authoritative for eligibility and form requirements
