Title: Unlimited Subscriptions & Self-Assessment Filing
Summary:
This article explains CalCal’s Unlimited and Unlimited+ subscriptions and how Self-Assessment filing works within them.
Current prices (Unlimited and Unlimited+)
These are the full accounting subscription prices:
- Unlimited — £5 per month or £50 per year. Accounting, reports, and Self Assessment filing. Monthly plans unlock Self Assessment filing after 3 months.
- Unlimited+ (also called Unlimited Plus) — £8 per month or £80 per year. Everything in Unlimited, plus VAT returns (MTD) and VAT reports.
- Tax Return Only (pay per return) — £35 for one Self Assessment submission. Separate from Unlimited / Unlimited+.
Unlimited and Unlimited+ are for one business with unlimited customers and suppliers in CalCal. They are not an accountant multi-client plan. For VAT MTD filing you need Unlimited+; for Income Tax MTD quarters see the MTD for Self Assessment guide.

What is the Unlimited subscription?
The Unlimited subscription provides ongoing access to CalCal’s accounting tools – recording earnings and expenses in the Calculating Calendar, sending invoices and statements, tracking asset purchases and stock value. It includes Self-Assessment tax return submission as part of the plan, much of it pre-filled with your totals and figures from the year.
It is designed for users who:
- Want year-round access to their records
- Are self-employed or limited company
- May also need VAT or ongoing reports

How to add forms
On a legacy Self Assessment year (the year shows a forms badge), add forms like this:
- Open Tax in the sidebar, then Tax Years.
- Open the tax year and continue into SA Submission.
- Go to the Your forms step.
- Tap Select forms.
- Turn on the forms you need (for example CGT: Capital Gains Tax for SA108), then save or go back.
- Open each form from the list to complete it, then continue the return as usual.
If a form is already switched on, open it from the Your forms list — you do not need to add it again. More detail on the wizard: How to find and submit your Self Assessment return.
Monthly vs annual subscriptions
- Annual plans allow immediate access to Self-Assessment filing
- Monthly plans require a short qualifying period before filing is enabled
If you need to submit a return urgently, the pay-per-return option or an annual subscription may be more suitable.
Choosing the right option
| Your situation | Recommended option |
|---|---|
| One tax year only | Pay-Per-Return (£35) |
| Self-employed | Unlimited (annual) |
| VAT + Self-Assessment | Unlimited+ |
| Catching up past years | Pay-Per-Return (per year) |
