Self-Assessment Tax Return Only

Summary:
This article explains CalCal’s tax-return-only option for submitting a UK Self-Assessment tax return for a single tax year.

What is the Pay-Per-Return option?

The Self-Assessment Tax Return option allows you to prepare and submit one UK Self-Assessment return for one tax year without taking out an ongoing subscription. You can select whether you want a recurring annual subscription on the payment screen.

It is designed for users who:

  • Only need to file occasionally
  • Are catching up on previous tax years
  • Do not need ongoing accounting features

Cost

  • £35 per tax year, per return
  • One-off payment
  • Auto-renew is optional; you can pay for one year or have your account available ongoing

What’s included

The £35 pay-per-return option includes:

  • Submission directly to HMRC
  • Support for common forms, including:
    • SA100 – Main tax return
    • SA101 – Additional information
    • SA102 – Employment
    • SA103S / SA103F – Self-employment
    • SA105 – UK property income
    • SA106 – Foreign income or gains
    • SA109 – Non-resident / residence status
  • Validation checks before submission

What’s not included

  • Ongoing accounting or bookkeeping features
  • VAT returns
  • MTD coming soon, but only applies to the full accounting package

If you want ongoing access with daily ins and outs, see the Unlimited subscription instead.

How it works

  1. Purchase the Self-Assessment return for the required tax year
  2. Complete the relevant sections of your return in CalCal
  3. Review your calculation and validation messages
  4. Submit electronically to HMRC

Who this option is best for

  • Non-UK residents filing SA100 + SA109
  • Landlords submitting SA105
  • Individuals filing one-off or historic returns
  • Users who don’t need ongoing accounting tools

Important notes

  • HMRC requires a Government Gateway ID to submit returns electronically
  • CalCal provides the software to submit your return, but does not provide personal tax advice
  • If you’re unsure which forms apply to you, consult HMRC guidance or a tax adviser
  • If you need to send more than one tax return for a year (eg you and your partner) you’ll need to sign up for separate accounts.
  • If you need to amend a return you’ve sent either directly to HMRC or via other software, sign up then send us a ticket to mark your submission as an amendment
