Questions before you file
A few practical details from the existing tax-return-only page, kept close to the decision point.
Is this suitable for non-residents?
Yes. The tax-only flow includes the SA109 non-resident / domicile / remittance basis schedule, alongside the other forms you need to add.
Do I usually pay UK tax if I am not UK resident?
You usually have to pay tax on UK income even if you are not UK resident. That can include pension income, rental income, savings interest and wages. HMRC guidance has the detailed rules.
Can CalCal pre-fill self-employment forms?
For self-employed users, CalCal can use a simplified form to help pre-fill SA103. You can enter expenses as one figure or use expense types adapted to your business.
What do I need before submitting?
You will need your figures, any schedules that apply, any attachments you want to include, and a Government Gateway ID for the final online submission.
What happens after submission?
CalCal submits the return to HMRC and keeps a record of submission. The page notes that acceptance notification is usually returned within about 10 seconds.
What if I need ongoing bookkeeping too?
Use CalCal Complete if you want ongoing invoices, records, VAT workflows and year-end tax in one place. This £35 route is for tax-return-only filing.
Ready to send it?
File the UK tax return you need, without turning it into a bookkeeping project.
